Welcome to Casa Rafela, our beautiful cottage in the tiny village of Fígols de Tremp, in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, in North-Eastern Spain. Casa Rafela in located on the edge of the village and looks directly out over orchards and olive groves, onwards over the vast landscapes of the Pre-Pyrenees and even further to some of the highest peaks in the entire range! With its two bedrooms (one en-suite), well equipped kitchen, superb roof terrace with marble dining table and real sun-beds, plus many other features, Casa Rafela provides ideal accommodation to suit all types of holiday – we should know, we’ve been coming here for over twenty years!

Casa Rafela's Terrace 'turns its back' on the village and looks directly out over the countryside, making it an oasis of calm

The village overlooks the valley of the river Noguera Pallaresa, which is a fascinating area with plenty on offer to suit all tastes: from high mountain peaks to bosky forests, and not forgetting the spectacular Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, which has been aptly described as “the jewel of the Pyrenees”. The village itself has a homely ‘Mediterranean’ ambience, however, with its olive groves and vineyards. Fígols is very much a real village as most of the twenty-odd houses are still owned by the original families, although most actually live in the nearby market town of Tremp, a fifteen minute drive away. Fígols’ immediate surrounds are pastoral, with land given over to orchards and meadows and is one of a group of hamlets strung out along the eastern flank of the Serra de Montllobar, the main feature of a moutain wilderness known as La Terreta, much of which is a Parc Natural, or nature conservation zone.

The village square with the Romanesque church of San Pere

Dramatic castles and historic Romanesque churches reflect the rich heritage of this once remote region, isolated by the Sierra de Montsec through which the river makes its spectacular exit at the Terradets ravine. The range of history, natural environments and geography, not to mention the marvelous Catalan cuisine, make this a fascinating area to explore. There’s so much on offer that we provide extensive guides, amounting to a book in fact, which helps guests get the very utmost from thier stay!

Dawn chorus - from the Terrace

As well as making an ideal base for exploring this fascinating area Casa Rafela offers a perfect contrast to a ‘normal’ Spanish holiday on the coasts such as the Costa Brava, or an ‘antidote’ to a city break in Catalonia’s wonderful main cities; Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona.

Please search the site to get an idea of the facilities the cottage and the region has to offer. Note also that ‘The Book!’ has much more detailed information of the region’s charms and amenities. All you need, in fact, to plan a holiday to remember!
